The recommended service frequency of a diesel generator depends on its usage and runtime. As a rough guide, you should aim for a complete inspection and maintenance of your generator every 6 months with a running time of 400 hours. Generators on construction sites or in similar environments may require additional maintenance.    

Portable generators may require an oil change every 100 hours and a new air intake filter and spark plug every 200 hours. Most diesel generators are designed to provide emergency power.    

Like any other motor-driven machine, a standby generator requires regular maintenance. Just as you wouldn’t drive your car 10,000 miles without getting an oil change, so would your standby generator. As the owner of a generator, you want to have a maintenance kit ready for your generator.
